Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to receive the R1000 Seniors Relief Grant, the applicant needs to be:
- An applicant of age 60 years and above.
- A South African citizen, or permanent resident, or a recognized refugee within South Africa.
- Meeting the SASSA threshold for income and assets of those for the Older Persons Grant.
- An existing beneficiary of the Older Persons Grant shall be entitled without the need to reapply.
Payment Date
The R1000 Seniors Relief Bonus will be paid on Thursday, 3 July 2025, with the Older Persons Grant being used to arrive normally on that day. The funds will also be paid to the beneficiaries via the usual channels comprising direct deposit to bank accounts, payments to SASSA cards, and designated payment points.

Those seniors that are not currently receiving the Older Persons Grant but meet the qualification criteria will be able to apply via the following ways:
Applying Online: Proceed to the official SASSA website and fill in the application form.
Applying Offline: Get to the nearest SASSA offices with the required documentation such as Identification, proof of residence, and finances.
Getting Help: Community centres and NGO offices in the area may be able to assist in completing the paperwork.
