Women on rolls make better biz sense -- "TECH MAHINDRA'S DRIVE"

Bangalore, Aug. 28

It's not just for diversity that women are hired here. IT services and telecom solutions firm Tech Mahindra Ltd finds that hiring women employees makes better business sense for the company.

"Hiring more women into the organisation has brought in stability and maturity within the organisation. We find that women are also better at multi-tasking and move more easily from one project to another," -Mr Sujit Baksi, President, Corporate Affairs, Tech Mahindra Ltd.

The company is on a special recruitment drive to take on more women on its rolls. Currently, about 22 per cent of the 21,000 people in the organisation are women and the company intends to take this to about 35 per cent by the end of financial year 2009.

Special referrals

Apart from routine hiring where women get inducted into the main workforce, the company has been organising special recruitment programmes to better its gender diversity index. Among them are special referrals and dial-in for appointments targeted only at women. "The referral bonus awarded for referring and successfully hiring women is 25 per cent more," -Mr Baksi.

CSR committment

Another reason Tech Mahindra prefers to hire more women into the organisation is their commitment to the company's CSR activity. "They are more committed to our company's CSR activities.

Women have formed the executive committee for our CSR activities and are managing a corpus of Rs 20 crore for all our voluntary work," -Mr Baksi.
