A one-day workshop on Business Communication was conducted by Ms. Anu Zachariah** for a packed class of participants on 19 January 2007 at Hotel Esthell, Chennai. The objective of the workshop was to -

  • Understand the process of communication and components therein.
  • Appreciate the factors that contribute to effectiveness of communication in a business context.
  • Develop the ability to adopt different modes of communication in various communication contexts.

Through interactive exercises and group discussions the participants were sensitized to the basic skills and styles in business communication and their implications. The impact of conditioning, habits and beliefs in communicating in groups, elements of interpersonal communication, barriers and obstacles to effective communication in a business context and techniques to deal with them were explored in this workshop.

The diversity of the group in terms of skill, age or experience level was not a deterrent to the participation and membership in the group. Active involvement, energy, enthusiasm and openness in sharing made this session a memorable experience for all. ious communication contexts.

The group is keen to continue its association through regular interaction on mail and in similar forums to sustain the learning and networking opportunity provided by EWIT.
